Going on a road trip? It is very important to be prepared before heading out; whether it’s just a short trip to Grandmas house or a cross country trek, make sure you do the following first:
It’s a good idea to do a simple inspection by walking around your vehicle to check the wiper blades, lights, and tires.
Make sure your wiper blades are in good and working condition.
Check all your turn signals, headlights and brake lights. It’s important that they are all working and functioning properly.
Make sure your tires don’t have extreme or uneven wear. Tire pressure should also be checked.
Fluid levels, belts/hoses, air conditioning, and battery connections are under hood inspections that will need to be completed as well.
Make sure to check under your vehicle for fluid or exhaust leaks.
You will also want to go on a pre-trip test drive to check the vehicle for brake response and feel.
Don’t forget to put together an emergency kit which should include:
One quart of Oil
Two quarts of Premix Radiator Coolant
Small Funnel
Tire Pressure Gauge
Pocket Knife
Rags and Waterless Hand Cleaner
Assortment of Combination Wrenches, Screwdrivers, and Pliers
Flashlight / Spare Batteries for Flashlight
Roadside Flares / Battery Operated Roadside Marker Lights
First Aid Kit
Electrical Tape/Duct Tape
Battery Jumper Cables
Blanket, Food, and Something to Drink
