Tips for Non-Swimmers

What are your fears while boating? For non-swimmers drowning can be the number one fear. A few of us here at CoverQuest have no idea how to swim, so for the non-swimmer out there we know exactly how you feel. We have found some information that is very helpful.

  • First thing you need to do is let go of the fear of drowning. Try to just breathe.
  • When in the pool find a place you can hang on and let your legs float out behind. Practice on your stomach or back; keep practicing until you are comfortable with half your body in the water.
  • Also practice kicking your legs.
  • Once comfortable try floating on your stomach or back without holding on to anything, but make sure to stay in shallow area so you can simply stand up if you need   to.
  • Practice exhaling underwater. If you are uncomfortable with that you can hold your nose closed or wear nose plugs and exhale through your mouth.
  • Opening your eyes underwater is hard for some. Wearing goggles can help you feel more comfortable when opening your eyes underwater.
