Ford Motor Company recently revealed their newly redesigned Mustang, creating an unprecedented amount of attention. The 2015 model has been redesigned to celebrate the Mustang’s 50^th birthday. This pony car has long been an American icon and is close to many car enthusiasts hearts. This was taken into special consideration by Ford’s design team. Their goal was to reinvent the Mustang, while taking it back to its roots; all while not turning off passionate Mustang enthusiasts - a fine line to walk for Ford’s design team. Another goal was to make the American Ford Mustang a global brand. For the first time the Mustang is being offered in a right-hand-drive version for Australian and United Kingdom markets. After some criticism, Chief Engineer Dave Pericak says, “We did not design a global Mustang. We designed a Mustang and took it global.” Even with Ford’s new focus on international marketing, sales overseas are projected to be modest at best.

As anticipated, the redesign has ignited a debate among Mustang Lovers. Some say the new model too closely resembles other Ford models and that the redesign was overly geared towards international consumers. Ford made an attempt to satisfy Mustang enthusiasts longing for that iconic 1965 model, but did not succeed with everyone.

However, Ford did satisfy a majority of their Mustang enthusiasts. They say that the extended, low profile hood and roofline give the Mustang the muscular look they crave. Supporters also boast the wider rear stance and the rear cabin being set further back as much desired Mustang characteristics. Overall, positive comments have focused on the sleeker, more muscular design.
