Ford recently revealed their new Ford F-150 at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show. This comes amidst big changes for Ford, who just revealed a new Mustang design. The F-150 redesign is making news for shedding more than 700 pounds by utilizing more aluminum and high-strength steel. The transition to aluminum is getting mixed results from the public, who hold Ford accountable to their “Built Ford Tough” standard. Ford says they have revolutionized the car industry with this development and that the 2015 Ford F-150 will be as tough and durable as ever.
Ford points out that losing this weight will improve gas mileage, boost acceleration, and allow for the option of a smaller engine. A 2.7-liter turbocharged V-6 is now the lower level engine option available, although all previous engine options are still available for those who crave the extra power.
Ford redesigned their most popular truck both inside and out. The exterior features headlights that wrap around the edge of the vehicle as well as a cutout coming from the grille. The grille is made of three wide bars and a larger Ford logo. Not a drastic redesign, but enough to give an updated and fresher look.
The interior has been improved upon by redesigning knobs and switches to be more user friendly as well as adding a new eight-inch LCD screen. The most updated versions of Sync and MyFord Touch are also included. Ford has redesigned the F-150 from construction to technology, by their use of aluminum to providing the latest touchscreen infotainment system.
As far as safety goes, Ford has added adaptive cruise control, a blind-spot warning system, and a lane-departure prevention system. These are on top of what Ford has previously been offering in their newer models; second-row inflatable seatbelts for added cushion during a crash and Curve Control. Curve Control immediately engages the brakes if a curve is entered at too high of speeds.
