Summer is right around the corner and for many, warm weather and more daylight hours provide a great opportunity for family outings. As you look forward to the summer, here are six tips for planning summertime fun.
Get out and Enjoy Nature. You can go hiking, fishing, fly a kite in the back yard or get an GPS enabled mobile phone and go Geocaching.
Explore Local Farmer’s Markets. Support your local farmers and buy quality locally grown foods. You can talk to the farmers directly and it is a great learning experience for your children.
Visit Summer Festivals. Festivals can be an affordable option as many are free to the public. There are many themes to summer festivals ranging from Hot Air Balloons to Music and Ethnic Cuisine.
Beat the Heat at area Lakes and Swimming Pools. Don’t stay indoors with the air conditioner on full blast. Visit your local lake or swimming pool to cool down on those hot summer days.
Be prepared with Snacks and Beverages. It’s certain that someone will get hungry during your outing, so be sure to pack some snacks like granola bars, fruit, or trail mix. Also bring along some insulated bottles or thermoses for your drinks.
Dress for the Weather and don’t forget the Sunscreen. Always remember to check the weather before heading out. If you are going to do a lot of walking, be sure to wear comfortable shoes. Bring along extra clothing if you are planning to swim or if there is a possibility you may get dirty. Consider wearing sunglasses or a hat if you are to be in the sun all day. Also apply sunscreen before leaving home and bring the bottle along so you can reapply throughout the day. You may want to bring a light jacket if you are going to be outside after dark.
